Transportation in fort collins

I was recently elected to the Fort Collins' Transportation Board, whose purpose is to “advise the Fort Collins City Council on transportation issues and examine issues relating to financing, the development and implementation of master plans pertaining to pedestrian, streets, transit, bicycles, automobiles, congestion, traffic signalization, and transportation facilities, the use of technology, and education of the public and private industry on transportation topics”. To do so most effectively requires strong communication between the board and the citizens of Fort Collins so we can better represent their needs and address their concerns.

To help facilitate this, I’d like to open this blog up to comments regarding any of your Fort Collins related transportation needs.

Recent topics discussed at Transportation Board meetings include the West Central Plan and the Remington Street Greenway. In both instances I was impressed by the amount of influence board members had over decisions and am hopeful that future concerns can be addressed quickly given the strong communication between the board and city planning entities.  That being said, I will do all I can to communicate any comments you leave for me regarding transportation in Fort Collins to the board in an attempt to help decrease these problems.

My long-term goals on the board include pitching a cycle highway and maybe even getting some
Solar FREAKIN' Roadways!

I look forward to hearing how we can and should make Fort Collins’ transportation even better!

would love to see an east-west bike trail, perhaps south of Harmony! And maybe a spring/fall bike to work day.

Biking:
I use this program for bike - to - bus in Longmont, but it is for the Boulder-Longmont juncture and it would be awesome to see something similar at the STC and DTC near the Max so we wouldn't have to haul bikes all over town:

Is there anyway to add something to the paint for new bike lanes so that drivers will know when they go over (like small rocks or grooves) - since drivers do not tend to stay in their lanes, maybe some kind of mechanical warning system would help.

A quick Google search does not reveal an easy map of where air is available on trails or around town - something that was updateable in real time would be awesome and help with planing trips.

Public Transport:
A real-time map showing the current locations of the Max bus at stops since the timing is usually off and it can be frustrating

Wifi on Flex bus doesn't always work and FR help desk isn't always able to detect issue - anything that can be done?

Driving:
A way to check when trains are coming would be helpful since traffic can get very backed up on the tracks.

Just some thoughts, hope they help! FOCO transportation is already great compared to many cities...
